MANILA – The Metrobank Group is keen on bidding for the country's biggest infrastructure project to date.
GT Capital Holdings Inc. president Maria Carmelo Luza Bautista told reporters last week that the company would need partners for the P122.8-billion Laguna Lakeshore Expressway-Dike Project (LLEDP) given the sheer size of the venture.
"It's interesting because there are synergies for us. There is a real estate component, a reclamation component. That would be an interesting opportunity for us. So, definitely we will be open to partner with the right partner," Bautista said.
George Ty-owned GT Capital has interests in banking, real estate, automotive, power generation, and insurance.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has given interested parties until October 16 to submit prequalification requirements, as well as proposals to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the LLEDP.
The project will involve the construction of a 47-kilometer flood control dike from Taguig to Los Banos, on top of which will be a 6-lane expressway, on an off-shore alignment 500 meters away from the western shoreline of Laguna Lake, including interchanges, bridges, floodgates, and pumps.
Likewise, it will cover the reclamation of 700 hectares west of and abutting the expressway-dike, separated from the shoreline by a 100-150 meter channel in Taguig and Muntinlupa.
The project aims to provide a high-standard highway that will speed up traffic between the southern part of Metro Manila and Laguna, as well as a dike that would mitigate flooding in the western coastal communities along Laguna Lake.
It also aims to create productive land and create opportunities for developing a new business and residential area on reclaimed land, to enhance regional and urban development.
The DPWH said it would resort to a two-stage, two-envelope system for the open solicitation of bids under the Build-Operate-and-Transfer (BOT) Law.
